Flash back to Nov 4, 2008 when Barack Obama overwhelmingly wins the Presidential Election. While he does not win the "Red State" of Alabama he does carry Jefferson County (yes Birmingham Alabama) and sets implications to be felt in future county and possibly state elections.

I'm drenched in tears as I write this diary. Tears of Joy.
This is a story that shall not go ignored. Let me tell it. The city known to many as Bombingham during the Civil Rights area voted for a skinny black man with a funny name. The first time that a Democratic Presidential Candidate since before the Civil Rights era carried Jefferson County and that man was Barack Obama.
On Tuesday Nov 4, 2008 blacks and whites celebrated together not apart at Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham Alabama.
The same Boutwell Auditorium where the Dixiecrats held their national convention in 1948.
